How to Apply
We accept applications mailed, faxed, or emailed, but the easiest way is to complete an online application found under the Apply Now link.
For us to review your application, it must include a deposit check or credit card payment of $890, a completed and signed application, and a brief personal statement.
Once accepted, students have until March 20, 2010 to pay the balance of their tuition. Any application received after March 20, 2010 will have its applicant pay the full balance of his or her tuition or contact us to discuss a different payment schedule. Any participant who returns from a program before the scheduled return date forfeits the tuition and must cover all expenses associated with an early return.
To Pay Using a Credit Card:
For all credit card transactions, we are charged a percentage of the total amount charged of 3.3%. This is the reason the tuition is slightly higher for people paying with Credit Cards. Once you enter the amount and click on Calculate, you will see the total amount to be charged for your card. Please press Checkout to proceed to the secure credit card page.
Financial Aid
At Walking Tree, we do not think cost should prevent enthusiastic students from being able to share in our unforgettable programs. Local Roots is our way of working with applicants who need assistance with the full tuition. Financial aid packages, using a variety of assistance options, are tailored to each qualified applicant. We value diversity within our groups and encourage people of all economic backgrounds to apply for Walking Tree Travel programs. In order to qualify for Local Roots assistance, applicants must submit the following:
- Complete Application
- Last available income tax return of all parties that are contributing
- Deposit check of $890
(refundable if we do not come to a mutual agreement about aid package)

Standards of Behavior
Walking Tree Travel expects its participants to behave in a manner consistent with successful group dynamics and safe travel. The use of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs is prohibited. If a participant acts in a manner deemed disrespectful or destructive to him or herself, the group, or anyone associated with Walking Tree, we reserve the right to send him/her home without a refund.

International Participants
Anyone that will be participating in one of our programs from outside of the United States is welcome to either meet the group in our departure city in the United States or arrange their own flight to the destination country for a discounted tuition. Please see the above chart for the amount that will be refunded. International participants must also make sure they have a valid passport and visa to enter the destination country.
Itinerary
Walking Tree will follow the published itineraries as closely as possible. However, it may be necessary or advantageous to alter our programs slightly because of weather, transportation impediments, or unexpected opportunities. If changes are necessary, we will provide as much notice to students and families as possible.
Travel Insurance
Our experience has taught us that travel can be unpredictable. As such, we strongly recommend that our participants purchase a separate travel insurance policy that helps to cover them financially in the event of an unforeseen complication. Coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, emergency medical treatment, emergency medical evacuation, and lost or stolen baggage are basic tenets of any good policy. Walking Tree is happy to facilitate the purchase of such a policy through a company with which we’ve worked in the past for an additional fee. Otherwise, we encourage you to research other options but we highly recommend additional coverage while your son or daughter is abroad.
